2010 · The Beginning

Ramona’s First Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & MMA Academy.

Ramona MMA Center opened in October 2010 as the first dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA academy in Ramona. What started with a small mat space and a handful of students has grown into a long-standing martial arts community built around consistency, structure, and family.

For more than fifteen years, the academy has remained locally owned and family operated, with many of the same coaches and students still training together today. Over the years, the facility expanded from a single mat room into a larger training center designed to support the growth of both the academy and the community around it.

The Family

Family Owned. Community Built.

Ramona MMA Center is a locally owned, family-operated martial arts academy led by Kevin and Whitney Hosseini.

As parents and long-time martial arts instructors, they have spent years building a training environment focused on structure, consistency, and community. Whitney oversees operations, the homeschool program, and the women’s Jiu-Jitsu program, while Kevin leads the academy’s martial arts instruction and overall program development.

The goal has always been to create a place where students of all ages can train in a positive and professional environment, whether they are stepping onto the mat for the first time or continuing years of training.

The Community

A Long-Term Martial Arts Community.

Over the years, students who started training at Ramona MMA Center as kids and teenagers have continued their journey into adulthood, with several earning black belts and becoming instructors within the academy.

Today, some of the original students from the early years are now bringing their own children to train at the same facility. That long-term continuity has helped create a strong sense of community across multiple generations of students and families.

Giving Back

Built to Create Opportunities for the Community.

As the academy grew over the years, expansion was never only about adding more space. Additional mat rooms and training areas were created with the long-term goal of building more opportunities for local families and creating programs that could give back to the community.

Today, the facility supports a wide range of community-focused programs including homeschool partnerships, women’s programs, youth mentorship, veteran support initiatives, adaptive training opportunities, and outreach efforts designed to help create a positive environment for people of all backgrounds.

Part of that mission is carried through the academy’s private foundation, R-Town Martial Arts Foundation, which was created to help provide opportunities, mentorship, and support for deserving local families and individuals through martial arts, fitness, and community programs.

The larger facility allows the academy to host multiple programs at the same time while continuing to create space for students and families who may benefit from mentorship, structure, and a strong sense of community.
