1st Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt · Retired SDPD Lieutenant · Former DTAC Instructor for two decades · 6th Degree Eskrima Master · First adult member of the Center since 2010
Romeo de los Reyes is the first-ever adult member of Ramona MMA Center , there since the very beginning in 2010. A home-grown 1st Degree Black Belt trained and promoted entirely under Kevin Hosseini.
Romeo began practicing Eskrima in 1997 and is now a 6th Degree Master in the art. He came to jiu-jitsu specifically to address the ground range that Eskrima doesn't cover, and became a tenacious, well-rounded competitor in the process. His teaching philosophy centers on mastering basics and using the mechanics of leverage to overcome situations where the odds are stacked against you , a particularly powerful message for law enforcement applications.
Beyond his coaching at the gym, Romeo is a retired Lieutenant from the San Diego Police Department, where he served as the head DTAC instructor for approximately two decades , training law enforcement in real-world combat and defensive tactics at the highest command level. He is widely recognized throughout the SD law enforcement community. His name and reputation bring an authority and public-trust dimension to the Center's identity that no other gym in town can match.
