An outdoor lifestyle paired with structured martial arts training.
Reserve Your Private TrialLake Henshaw sits in the Mesa Grande area of San Diego County’s back country — quiet, rural, and built around outdoor recreation. Residents who live near the lake tend to be active people: hikers, anglers, ranchers, retirees who keep moving. Ramona MMA Center, about 28 miles to the southwest, is a natural fit for that lifestyle.
Martial arts training adds something hiking and fishing can’t — structured progression, technique, and the kind of conditioning that comes from training with a partner. For Lake Henshaw residents looking to add a real martial arts program to an already-active life, the drive is short and worth it.
The students at Ramona MMA Center who come from the Lake Henshaw area share a common thread: they’re already physically active, and they want their training to match. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, and wrestling all reward that. Conditioning develops naturally through training, and the students who arrive with a baseline of outdoor fitness pick up the technical side faster.
For students focused more on fitness than on competition, the cardio kickboxing and recreational tracks deliver a complete full-body workout while teaching real techniques. No sparring required, no pressure to compete.
The Lake Henshaw students at Ramona MMA Center generally choose programs that combine fitness with technical depth:

The Ramona MMA Center community is built on long-term training relationships. Many of our students have been training for five, ten, even twenty years. Lake Henshaw residents who join often stay because the environment values consistency and steady progression. Coaches teach. Students train. Long-term skill builds session by session. That’s the kind of place outdoor people tend to be looking for.
Lake Henshaw residents looking to start should reserve a private trial — your first session is complimentary. The trial is a chance to walk through the facility, talk through your fitness or training goals with a coach, and pick the program that fits. Most students from the area find that two to three classes per week keep them in great shape and steadily progressing in skill. The drive becomes part of the routine quickly, and the structure of the program rewards consistency.
Every discipline is taught across age-grouped and skill-grouped tracks. Lake Henshaw students can plug into the right track based on age and goals — from kids in the youth program to adults training for fitness, self-defense, or competition.

Ramona MMA Center has been operating for more than two decades, training students of every age and experience level. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is led by Professor Kevin Hosseini, a 4th-degree black belt under Fabio Santos in the Rickson Gracie lineage — one of the most respected lines in modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Wrestling is led by Tyler McKay, the head wrestling coach at Ramona High School. Striking is taught by experienced coaches with real lineage and competition backgrounds.
Every coach in the gym was developed inside the program, which keeps coaching consistent and the curriculum coherent across every class. Students train as part of a team where coaches and teammates are invested in their progress from day one.
